PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - A Pierre woman is serving two months in custody for lying to a federal officer during an investigation into an armed standoff last year.

Twenty-year-old Kelsey Howe pleaded guilty in February to one count of making false statements to a federal agency. KCCR radio reports that she was sentenced last week to two months in custody and a year on supervised release.

Authorities say Howe lied about knowing the whereabouts of Jason Garreau, who was involved in a shootout near Fort Thompson in October with law officers. Garreau’s cousin was killed in the shootout.

Garreau later was involved in a shootout in Pierre that wounded two police officers. He’s pleaded guilty to both state and federal charges and is to be sentenced in a few weeks.
