MYSTIC, Conn. (AP) - An Amtrak Acela Express train has struck and killed a pedestrian in Groton.

Police says man was struck while standing on the tracks at around 9:15 a.m. on Monday and thrown into the Mystic River.

The victim’s name has not been released.

Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods says the train, which was heading from New York to Boston, was carrying 207 passengers. She says the train was delayed about two hours because of the police investigation, and while Amtrak replaced crew members who had asked to be to be relieved.

It is the second fatal train incident in the area in two weeks. Megan Briggs, an 18-year-old Stonington High School senior, was struck and killed in the Pawcatuck section of Stonington on April 25.
