BOSTON, N.Y. (AP) - An air medical services helicopter landed safely on a western New York baseball field after a door flew off during a flight back to its base.

Executives with Buffalo-based Mercy Flight tell local media that the helicopter was en route from a Buffalo hospital to Olean (OH’-lee-an) near the Pennsylvania border when the door fell off around 5:45 p.m.

The pilot, nurse and paramedic on board weren’t hurt and no one on the ground was injured. The pilot landed safely on a baseball field in the town of Boston, 10 miles south of Buffalo.

Officials say the helicopter was loaded onto a flatbed truck and transported to the Mercy Flight hangar at the Buffalo airport for examination and repairs. It wasn’t immediately known what caused the door to fall off.
