NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) - China’s Consul General will be visiting the city of Naperville this week.

Naperville Mayor George Pradel’s office announced that the Honorable Zhao Weiping will be presented with honorary citizenship to the city on Tuesday. Weiping has been counsul general for Chicago’s consular district since 2013.

The Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Chicago covers nine states in the Midwest, where there are more than 300,000 Chinese nationals or Chinese Americans. Its mission is to safeguard the legal rights and interests of the Chinese citizens and promotes exchanges and cooperation between China and the Midwest.

Tuesday’s visit will be Zhao’s first official trip to Naperville, which is about 27 miles southwest of Chicago.
