LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The University of Wyoming is making a major revision to it general studies program.

The university says the revision will provide undergraduate students with a strong educational foundation while simplifying the course-selection process.

The general studies program, called the University Studies Program, consists of coursework required for all students pursuing bachelor’s degrees at UW. The new program is scheduled to be in place for the fall 2015 semester.

The most significant change is the addition of a required seminar course for all freshmen. Students will choose from more than 60 available in a wide range of disciplines.

UW officials believe the first-year courses will help increase student retention, as students are expected to gain the skills they need to succeed in college.
