ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis police are planning to boost security in Forest Park.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1jqTA7q ) officials are expecting an increase in pedestrian and vehicle traffic in the the park as St. Louis celebrates its 250th birthday, the Shakespeare festival in the park resumes and the 34th annual Fair St. Louis moves to the park this July.

Starting May 12, police say Forest Park will have up to five officers and three armed park rangers around the clock. Officers will patrol the park in marked squad cars most of the time, but some will use bicycles, all-terrain vehicles and horses.

St. Louis police Sgt. John Vogt says he’s also been coordinating security strategies for the 73 security guards at the art museum, zoo, science center and history museum.
