JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) - The name of a central Missouri Marine is among those etched on a monument at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia.

The Jefferson City News Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1jqRiFl ) 1st Lt. Bernard Plassmeyer was among those honored in a ceremony April 25. He was among 50 members of The Basic School’s Class 6-67 to have their names etched on the monument. Plassmeyer was the class honor graduate out of nearly 500 in his class.

The monument says 43 men from the class were killed in Vietnam, one was killed in Lebanon, six lost their lives in training and more than 200 class members were wounded in combat.

Plassmeyer was piloting a plane in 1970 during the Vietnam War when his plane was apparently shot down. His body hasn’t been found.
