TEMECULA, Calif. (AP) - A school district has sued the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department over the arrest of an autistic teen in an undercover drug bust at a Temecula high school.
The Press-Enterprise reported Sunday (https://bit.ly/1hpDhU7 ) that Temecula Valley Unified School District filed the lawsuit Wednesday in connection with ongoing litigation by the parents of the arrested boy.
The district denies allegations the Chaparral High School student was targeted because of his disabilities but wants the county sheriff’s department to cover costs if it is found liable.
County spokesman Ray Smith could not immediately confirm the county had been served.
Twenty-two students were arrested in 2012 after sheriff’s deputies posed as students in drug stings. The boy’s parents contend the district put him in harm’s way, causing him to be entrapped and prosecuted.
