ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Tourism managers are trying to persuade visitors across more of the eastern United States to make Asheville their vacation destination.

The Asheville Citizen-Times reports Sunday (https://avlne.ws/1ieE61v ) that the city’s Convention & Visitors Bureau has expanded television advertising to Charleston and Columbia, South Carolina. Targeted for August are Knoxville and Nashville, Tennessee, and Cincinnati, Ohio.

A big goal is to get more overnight and multiple night stays, including mid-week.

The Asheville area gets 9 million visitors a year. They spend $1.5 billion a year and support 23,000 jobs.

Zip line recreation company Navitat CEO Ken Stamps says many of his customers already come from Cincinnati and Nashville.
