ATLANTA (AP) - A new sloth will be hanging around Atlanta’s zoo next year.

Zoo Atlanta says 19-year-old Hoffman’s two-toed sloth Okra Mae is pregnant. The zoo says sloths have an unusually long gestation period, and Okra Mae is expected to give birth in about a year.

Okra Mae had one previous surviving baby before arriving at Zoo Atlanta. It will be the first offspring for 21-year-old male Cocoa.

Hoffman’s two-toed sloths are native to Central and South America. They are not classified as endangered, but the zoo says wild populations face habitat destruction and human encroachment.
