BOSTON (AP) - Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia is out of Saturday night’s game against Tampa Bay with a right hand injury suffered in his last at-bat one night earlier.
Boston manager John Farrell said he went for X-rays earlier in the day, which were negative. He had an MRI before the game.
The club announced before the top of the second inning that the MRI showed “no further or structural damage.”
Pedroia is hitting .275 with two homers and 17 RBIs.
Pedroia grounded out to third in the ninth inning of Friday’s 3-2 win in 10 innings over the Rays and was replaced in the top of the 10th.
Jonathan Herrera is taking his spot in the field and batting ninth Saturday.
