CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y. (AP) - National Guard soldiers and airmen from across New York are at Camp Smith Training Site for their annual sharpshooting match.

The Adjutant General’s Match at the facility just southeast of West Point lasts three days and tests marksmanship skills with weapons used in Iraq and Afghanistan - the M-16 rifle, M-9 pistol and M-249 light machine gun.

The match consists of eight timed events in close quarters combat, casualty, and nuclear-biological-chemical drills. It’s designed to give soldiers the chance to improve their accuracy, engage in healthy competition, and allow Guard officials to pick top contenders to represent the state in national competitions.

Defending team champions are members of the 107th Security Force Squadron of the New York Air National Guard, based in Niagara Falls.
