JUNEAU, Alaska (AP) - A 43-year-old convicted sex offender has been arrested for sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl in Juneau and Ketchikan.
The Juneau Empire reports (https://bit.ly/1txTs7G) Jonathan A. Hayward was arrested Friday in Ketchikan.
Juneau Police Department Lt. Kris Sell says the case began when the girl told a medical provider about the abuse during a doctor’s check-up.
Sell says Hayward had been abusing the girl for two years. Sell did not specify the relationship between Hayward and the girl out of privacy concerns.
Sell says the girl attempted to alert an adult of the abuse earlier, but the woman did not take action.
Court records show that Hayward was convicted of attempted sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree in Ketchikan Superior Court in 2000.
