WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) - The U.S. Department of Transportation is granting more than $800,000 to the Jamestown Airport Authority.

U.S. Sens. Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven announced the $806,937 grant on Friday.

The senators say the grant will be used to acquire a new aircraft rescue and fire fighting vehicle.

The Department of Transportation also announced $17.5 million in grants to seven other North Dakota airports earlier in May.

Heitkamp and Hoeven hosted Federal Aviation Authority head Michael Huerta in North Dakota in April. The senators pushed for more federal support for the state’s airports during Huerta’s visit. They say some of the state’s airports have struggled to keep up with the demands of the rapid population growth the state is seeing.
