DETROIT (AP) - A large number of bids for a vacant house caused the Detroit Land Bank website to crash.
The city says www.BuildingDetroit.org went down about 5:30 p.m. Friday, leaving several people unable to submit final bids for the house at 115 Chicago Boulevard on Detroit’s west side.
The city says bids had reached an auction high of $135,000. The property will be offered again June 6 when the website’s capacity is increased.
The online auction of houses owned by the Land Bank is part of Detroit’s efforts to eradicate blight and stabilize neighborhoods. The city wants to sell the houses to people willing to quickly fix them up.
A recent survey shows Detroit has more than 84,000 blighted or nearly blighted structures and vacant lots.
