HOUSTON (AP) - A year has passed since a fire swept through a southwest Houston hotel, killing four firefighters. Houston Mayor Annise Parker joins Houston Fire Department personnel in marking that occasion at a morning ceremony at Houston’s Fire Fighter’s Pension Hall.

The Saturday morning ceremony marks the first anniversary of the May 31, 2013, fire at the Southwest Inn on U.S. 59 in southwest Houston. Four firefighters searching for people they thought might be trapped in the blazing hotel and restaurant died when the part of the structure collapsed on them.

At least five other firefighters were hospitalized in the blaze that became the deadliest in the 118-year history of the Houston Fire Department.
