LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Kyle Funkhouser struck out 10 in eight shutout innings as Louisville topped Kent State 5-0 on Friday night in an NCAA regional game.

The Cardinals (46-15) scored two runs in the first without a hit leaving the infield. Leadoff man Kyle Gibson walked, and Cole Sturgeon followed with a bunt single. Both were sacrificed over and, with two outs, both scored on an error by Kent State shortstop Zach Beckner.

Louisville added a run in the second and two in the third to complete the scoring.

Kent State (36-22) offered a final challenge in the eighth against Funkhouser, who retired 15 in a row until Beckner singled with one out in the eighth. But with runners on first and third with two outs, Funkhouser struck out Troy Summers to end the inning.

The Cardinals will play Kansas on Saturday, and Kent State will play Kentucky in an elimination game.
