RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas (AP) - Court records show a Honduran man has been charged with assaulting a federal agent after fighting with him while trying to avoid an immigration arrest near Rio Grande City.

The Monitor in McAllen (https://bit.ly/1u1dnxZ ) reports the 18-year-old man went before a U.S. magistrate judge on Thursday and was formally charged with assaulting a federal officer and an immigration violation.

The charges come after the FBI investigated the struggle between him and agent earlier that day.

FBI agents said in their criminal complaint that the agent was patrolling on bicycle when he spotted a group that appeared to have just crossed the Rio Grande. The agent tried to stop the group, catching the 18-year-old, who FBI agents said punched the Border Patrol agent in the face and chest several times.
