AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Shenna Bellows says she will fight to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 an hour if elected as Maine’s next U.S. Senator.

Bellows, who is challenging Republican incumbent Sen. Susan Collins in November, made the remarks at the Democratic convention in Bangor on Saturday.

Bellows criticized her opponent for voting against the minimum wage hike in Congress and says too many lawmakers in Washington have forgotten what it’s like for working-class people to struggle.

Bellows says that as the daughter of a carpenter, she will be a voice for Maine’s working-class. She was executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Maine before choosing to run for the Senate.

Also speaking Saturday are the Democrats seeking the nomination for the 2nd District seat and gubernatorial candidate Mike Michaud.
