RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - A medical device manufacturer is closing its operations in Asheboro in a move that will eliminate as many as 600 jobs.
The News & Observer reports (https://bit.ly/1u0mKxW ) that over the next three years, Teleflex plans to end manufacturing in Asheboro about 75 miles west of Raleigh.
Teleflex makes medical catheters and surgical kits at its Arrow International plant in Asheboro. The plant has 470 employees as well as 165 contract workers.
Teleflex is restructuring and also closing a second manufacturing plant in Menlo Park, California.
A company executive says Teleflex remains committed to plans to expand in the Raleigh area where it employs 450 workers. The company plans to invest $25 million and create 75 new jobs at a consolidated operation in Morrisville.
