NEW ORLEANS — Real estate mogul Donald Trump said the $2 billion sale of the Los Angeles Clippers means that “the dollar has gone to hell.”
“The dollar has gone to hell,” Mr. Trump said, repeating for emphasis.
Shelly Sterling, the wife of disgraced owner Donald Sterling, announced Thursday that a deal had been struck to sell the team to former Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.
Mr. Sterling, who was banned for life last month from the NBA over racist remarks, purchased the Clipper for $12.5 million in 1981.
Mr. Trump said it is good for the country, basketball and even Mr. Sterling that he was pushed out as owner.
“He might end up coming out a pretty big winner in this thing,” Mr. Trump said. “I don’t know where that money is going. The wife is saying she owns it, and everybody is saying she owns it, probably even the girlfriend is going to claim a piece.”
He added, “I assume she will get nothing and I hope she gets nothing.”
