COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) - Rescue workers have recovered the body of a 17-year-old boy who went underwater in a creek near Columbia while swimming with friends.

Boone County authorities say the boy’s friends notified law enforcement Thursday evening that their friend was missing at Perche Creek near Cooper’s Landing, a marina near Columbia.

The Columbia Missourian reports (https://bit.ly/1lXaecp ) that Missouri State Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Paul Reinsch says the boy’s body was recovered around 11 a.m. Friday.

Reinsch says authorities were contacting the boy’s family before releasing his name.

Boone County fire Capt. Martina Pounds says local, county and state workers searched for the boy until about 11 p.m. Thursday and resumed the search Friday morning.
