SEATTLE (AP) - A Washington Transportation Department spokesman says a truck driver has reported a dangling chain may have caused a roadway problem that backed up southbound Interstate 5 traffic in Seattle for at least 10 miles on Thursday morning.
The Seattle Times reports (https://is.gd/VR85f3 ) that agency spokesman Bart Treece says the driver reported the chain was dangling from his truck. Officials say the chain apparently got caught on a highway expansion joint and yanked the joint’s protective steel plate up from the road deck.
Three of five southbound lanes were closed for about five hours.
State Trooper Chris Webb says at least three vehicles were damaged by hitting the metal plate, and others may have had tires punctured. He had no reports of injuries.
The damage was fixed before the afternoon commute.
