HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Supreme Court is asking attorneys to weigh in on whether a failed mayoral candidate trying to oust the Henderson mayor has standing to do so.

Rick Workman says Mayor Andy Hafen is ineligible to hold the job because of state laws on term limits. He cites a February ruling by the state Supreme Court that says council members who have served the maximum 12 years in office cannot run for mayor and serve on the same governing body.

Mayors of Henderson and Reno are voting members of their city councils.

The city of Henderson has said the ruling wasn’t intended to unseat people elected before it was issued.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal (https://bit.ly/RLnR6g ) reports that the court is seeking more information before deciding whether to intervene.
