JACKSON, Wyo. (AP) - The Jackson Town Council has formally added protections for gay, lesbian and transgender people to its hiring policies.

The Jackson Hole News & Guide reported Friday (https://tinyurl.com/qhec7as ) the changes formalize a practice the city has followed for several years.

The council voted 3-0 in favor of the changes Tuesday.

The council acted after the Human Rights Campaign asked town staff about it in April.

Town Council Don Frank says adding protections to the policy manual “is in the finer spirit of liberty and justice.”

Mark Houser, coordinator of Jackson Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, says changing the written policy removes any ambiguities.

Houser says few towns of Jackson size have adopted similar language anywhere in the country.
