GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) - After a face lift, the Caveman statue is back in its customary place welcoming visitors to Grants Pass.
Members of the Oregon Cavemen booster club told the Grants Pass Daily Courier (https://bit.ly/1tXQdZl) on Friday that it is there to stay.
The Cavemen have been promoting Grants Pass as the gateway to the Oregon Caves National Monument since 1922, and installed the 17-foot-tall statue in 1971. But in recent years the club had become inactive and the statue had fallen into disrepair.
Cavemen Chief Bighorn James Lowe says that’s all changed. Last weekend the club appeared with the statue in the annual Boatnik Parade for the first time since 2005, the statue got a face lift at a local auto body shop, and a tree obscuring it has been cut down.
