BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A Baton Rouge police lieutenant who retired a few days ago has been arrested and accused of clocking in with the department at the same time he was working off-duty security assignments.

The Advocate reports (https://bit.ly/SjyZrv ) Dewayne E. Lee Sr., 52, was booked Thursday on counts of public payroll fraud and malfeasance.

Police said Lee, who retired on Saturday, is accused of working security details at the Fairfield Medical Clinic on at least seven days when he also was being paid by the police department when he also was being paid by the Police Department to work as a commander in the Misdemeanor Follow Up Division.

Although the arrest warrant lists seven days, beginning March 26 and ending April 16, on which Lee worked security at the medical center, it also indicates that Lee received “26 notations of payments” for work completed between May 3, 2013, and April 18, 2014.

The warrant says Lee never had permission from the department to work security for the medical center.

Lee was paid $450 by the medical center for the off-duty work between April 4 and April 17, the warrant says.

Two other police officers also work off-duty security at the medical center but the spokesman, Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., said they were authorized by the department to do so, and neither of them is accused of any wrongdoing.
