PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Teachers at Roman Catholic high schools in the Philadelphia area have agreed to a one-year contract.
The deal includes a $1,200 raise for the academic year that starts this fall. But it also requires them to pay a bit more for their medical benefits.
According to a joint statement from the union and archdiocese, teachers approved the agreement Wednesday. It takes effect Sept. 1.
The contract covers about 650 teachers in 17 high schools. Approximately 14,000 students attend the schools in the city and its suburbs.
Teachers are currently working under a three-year deal negotiated during a two-week strike in September 2011.
Teachers at Catholic elementary schools are not unionized.
