NEW YORK (AP) - The Yankees called up right-hander Alfredo Aceves from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre early Saturday and designated reliever Chris Leroux for assignment.
Aceves struck out 14 in 13 2-3 innings as a minor leaguer this season, where he had been mostly working as a starter.
Manager Joe Girardi says Aceves, who pitched for New York from 2008-10 before spending the last three seasons with Boston, will be used as a bullpen option for now.
Leroux allowed five runs in the 14th inning of Friday night’s 10-5 loss to the Rays.
