MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont House and Senate may be headed for a tussle over how far and how fast to raise the state’s minimum wage.

The House recently passed a bill calling for increasing the wage from its current $8.73 to $10.10 per hour beginning next January.

A bill given preliminary approval by the Senate on Friday would go to $10.50 per hour but would not get to that level until 2018.

If neither side accedes to the other, a legislative conference committee will have to be appointed to negotiate a compromise.
