PITTSBURGH (AP) - U.S. Steel Corp. is laying off an undisclosed number of Pittsburgh employees to cut costs.

The Pittsburgh-based steelmaker says in a Friday statement that there will be layoffs there and in other locations, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (https://bit.ly/1lL44zs ) reports.

U.S. Steel spokeswoman Courtney Boone says the layoffs involve employees in operations and business support functions. The company has about 5,000 employees in the Pittsburgh area and about 37,000 worldwide.
