GROTON, Conn. (AP) - U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Richard Breckenridge will be in Groton to discuss a new $17.6 billion contract with General Dynamics to build attack submarines.
Under the deal approved Monday, General Dynamics’ subsidiary Electric Boat will be responsible for building 10 Virginia Class submarines.
The company plans to build two ships per year for the next five years with the help of its partner Newport News Shipbuilding, a unit of Huntington Ingalls Industries, in Newport News, Virginia.
Breckenridge is scheduled to appear Monday at EB’s Groton offices. He’s expected to be joined by U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy, U.S. Rep. Joe Courtney, EB Vice President Kurt Hesch and General Dynamics Executive Vice President of the Marine Group, John Casey.
