BALTIMORE (AP) - To celebrate the completion of a piece of Baltimore’s newest public skate park, the nonprofit group that advocated for its construction is hosting a grand opening event.

Saturday’s daylong party, sponsored by The Skatepark of Baltimore, is in honor of a 5,000-square-foot concrete bowl in Roosevelt Park in the Hampden neighborhood. Stephanie Murdock, founder and president of the Skatepark of Baltimore, says the group expects more than 100 skateboarders to use the skate park each day once it is complete.

Construction on the bowl was completed in February, and fundraising efforts for the two remaining phases of the project are underway.

Saturday’s festivities start at 11 a.m., and include live music, skate demonstrations, a graffiti wall and skate park design workshops.
