CHICAGO (AP) - A Chicago man has been sentenced to 100 years in prison for the 2008 gun-slaying of a music producer.
Thirty-year-old Darryl Evans was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting, which occurred during a failed robbery at a gas station. His sentencing was Friday.
The victim, Michael Phipps Jr., was a music producer with a Chicago hip-hop record label called Meen.
The gunman was attempting to rob Phipps, who had stopped at a gas station. When Phipps ran, he was shot in the back.
According to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, Evans then fired shots at witnesses and drove away, leaving an accomplice behind.
His co-defendant testified against him in court and received a 21-year prison sentence for his role.
