CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia flags at state facilities will be displayed at half-staff in honor of former Supreme Court Justice Elliott “Spike” Maynard.

Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has ordered flags lowered from dawn until dusk on Sunday, the day of Maynard’s funeral in Goody, Ky.

The Mingo County native died Thursday at age 71. He served a 12-year term on the court as a Democrat starting in 1997.
