CANON CITY, Colo. (AP) - A 43-year-old Canon City man has denied charges stemming from a fatal shooting east of Pueblo.

The Canon City Daily Record reports (https://bit.ly/1nTDWVp ) Anthony S. Wright appeared in the Otero County Courthouse on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. His trial is scheduled to begin in September.

Authorities say 77-year-old Byron Griffy, a longtime school board member and funeral director in the Arkansas Valley, was found shot to death in his Fowler home Oct. 12, 2012, and Wright was arrested in Canon City last August.

Wright, who knew Griffy through the funeral home business, is free on $250,000 bail.
