MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Gov. Peter Shumlin says Toyota has donated two electric hybrid vehicles to Vermont.
The two Prius plug-in vehicles will arrive in the next few weeks and join the state’s fleet.
Shumlin says the timing is perfect as the state takes steps to encourage industry and consumers to consider building charging stations and purchasing zero emission vehicles.
Vermont recently signed an agreement with seven other states to work toward putting 3.3 million zero-emission vehicles on the nation’s roads by 2025.
Toyota General Manager George Brenner says the state of Vermont is leading by example. He says providing Vermonters with more hands-on experience should benefit the state as it moves forward with policies and investments to support greater consumer acceptance of ZEVs.
