OSO, Wash. (AP) - The Washington Transportation Department says at least a portion of a highway blocked by the deadly March 22 mudslide near Oso will reopen this weekend.
The Seattle Times reports (https://is.gd/HWsmhb) that highway officials wouldn’t clarify Thursday how much of the blocked section of Highway 530 would reopen but promised full details Friday.
A detour around the mudslide area opened last month to assist local residents and those with business ties to the communities of Darrington, Oso or Arlington. Pilot cars guide drivers along that access road.
Highway officials estimate a reconstructed highway through Oso will open to traffic by October.
The remains of 42 people have been recovered, with one more person known to be missing.
