BARTON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont State Police say the investigation is continuing into an officer-involved shooting in which a man was shot by two state troopers after he led officers on a chase before ramming two police cruisers in Barton.

Police say the officers involved were 43-year-old Sgt. Denis Girouard and 26-year-old Trooper Seth Loomis. Both have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after a shooting.

Police say the suspect, 27-year-old Eric Jackson of Lyndonville, Vermont, remained in stable condition Thursday at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Police said he was wanted on escape status from the Department of Corrections.

After a lengthy pursuit, police say Jackson stopped in Barton, changed directions by accelerating in reverse and repeatedly rammed two state police cruisers. The two officers fired their weapons; they were not hurt.
