Activists gathered Wednesday at the capitol in Oklahoma City to kick off a campaign to legalize medical marijuana in their state, according to NBC News.
So far, 22 states and the District have allowed medical marijuana programs to take root within their borders, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Oklahomans for Health want to build awareness and gain signatures from Oklahoma voters for a ballot measure that would legalize cannabis for medicinal purposes, NBC reports.
“There’s thousands of Oklahomans who suffer. They either suffer every day because this is unavailable, or they commit a felony,” Chip Paul, of the Tulsa-based nonprofit, told NBC.
Mr. Paul said cancer and seizure patients do much better with the aid of medical marijuana.
