CLEVELAND, Miss. (AP) - Johnnie Vick has assumed his duties as superintendent of the newly formed North Bolivar Consolidated School District.

The Bolivar Commercial reports (https://bit.ly/TWJNNA) that Vick was hired this week. He had been principal at I.T. Montgomery Elementary School since 2010.

State law directed the five Bolivar County school districts be combined into two. The new school boards were elected in 2013.

The Benoit, West Bolivar and Shaw districts will become a new West Bolivar district based in Rosedale. Mound Bayou and North Bolivar will become a new North Bolivar district based in Mound Bayou. The Cleveland city district is left alone.

The North Bolivar School District will have about 1,265 students and the West Bolivar School District will have about 1,689 students.
