MACON, Ga. (AP) - The Macon area is nearing a goal of demolishing 100 dilapidated buildings by June 30.
The Telegraph reports (https://bit.ly/1jvZGiS) that Macon-Bibb County on Wednesday knocked down its 91st house this fiscal year.
Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert Reichert promised to meet his goal of tearing down 100 dilapidated buildings by the June 30 end of the fiscal year.
Macon-Bibb County spokesman Chris Floore said two or three more houses are ready to be demolished, and another six or eight are awaiting a final inspection before they are destroyed.
On Wednesday, a house on Irving Avenue was torn down as the kickoff of another round of the “Five by Five” neighborhood cleanup program. It focuses intensive cleanup of public properties and partnership with private agencies in a five-block area for five weeks.
