ASTORIA, Ore. (AP) - Students and staff of the Tongue Point Job Corps say they rescued a bald eagle they spotted flapping around in the Columbia River off Astoria, Oregon.
KGW-TV reports (https://is.gd/AiVPJ7 ) the crew was on board a ship and training on the river Thursday afternoon.
Len Tumbarellow is captain of the ship, named “Ironwood.” He says as the boat approached the bird, it became clear that nothing like a net was holding it in the water. The tired eagle tried to move away but the students and ship’s crew managed to scoop it into a net and get it safely into a box cushioned with blankets.
Oregon State Police from Astoria agreed to meet them on shore and take the eagle for medical care.
