MOLINE, Ill. (AP) - The federal government will help pay for construction of a new passenger ferryboat terminal on the Mississippi River at Moline.
U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos announced the grant of more than $750,000 on Wednesday.
It will go to the Rock Island County Metropolitan Mass Transit District.
In a news release, the two Democratic lawmakers say the facility will expand the docking capacity of the three-vessel fleet of Channel Cat ferryboats.
Bustos called the section of the Mississippi a vital transportation corridor and said the project will create jobs.
