AUGUSTA, Maine (AP) - Maine Democrats say they’re concerned about the state’s ability to recoup past payments to a Medicaid consultant group in light of reports that it plagiarized its work.
In a letter to Gov. Paul LePage Wednesday, House Speaker Mark Eves and Senate President Justin Alfond said they’re encouraged that the state suspended payments to the Alexander Group last week, but are concerned the $925,000 contract doesn’t include protections to ensure the state gets back past payments.
Maine has paid the group about $500,000.
Two newspapers reported last week that the Alexander Group copied or improperly cited several other organizations’ works. The group has said that it failed to use proper footnotes.
A LePage spokeswoman says he’s looking into the allegations and will take action, including terminating the contract, if necessary.
