SAN DIEGO (AP) - A spokesman for Republican U.S. House candidate Carl DeMaio says the contender’s campaign office was vandalized less than a week ahead of the June 3 all-party primary.
Dave McCulloch says staff members arrived to the San Diego office at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday and found computer cords and telephone lines cut and water poured on laptops.
McCulloch says the campaign staff believes someone is trying to silence DeMaio’s message calling for reform that would rein in pension costs.
Police are investigating the incident.
The openly gay former San Diego City Council member is running for the 52nd Congressional District in a crowded primary race pitting him against incumbent Democratic Rep. Scott Peters and two other Republican challengers.
