ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - Closing arguments are expected in the murder trial of an upstate New York man charged with beating his girlfriend to death inside her college dormitory room in 2012.

Local media report that Clayton Whittemore’s defense attorney wrapped up his case Wednesday in Monroe County Court in Rochester. Closing arguments are expected on Thursday, with the jury getting the case afterward.

The 22-year-old Whittemore was charged in September 2012 beating death of 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut inside her dorm room at the State University of New York College at Brockport, 15 miles west of Rochester. Whittemore is from New Hartford, New York, as was Kogut.

Whittemore was enrolled at Utica College when police say he killed the former high school swimming standout by beating her with his fists and curling iron during a visit.
