ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta’s mayor has announced an initiative to aid the integration of immigrant communities.
Mayor Kasim Reed on Wednesday announced the creation of the Welcoming Atlanta Working Group. The 21-member group is tasked with recommending ways to address gaps in the integration of newly arrived communities in the city.
Reed says the creation of the group is a step toward strengthening Atlanta’s standing as a global and inclusive community.
The group will be chaired by Reed and co-chaired by Jeffrey Tapia, executive director of The Latin American Association, and Atlanta immigration attorney Charles Kuck.
The group plans to break into subcommittees to focus on key areas of immigrant integration and will present recommendations to Reed in August.
