SEATTLE (AP) - An official who was head of national counterintelligence for the U.S. has been named special agent in charge of the FBI’s Seattle division.

The FBI said Frank Montoya Jr. assumed leadership of the office Thursday.

He began his career as a special agent with the FBI in May 1991. He has served as special agent in charge of the Honolulu Division, and most recently served as the national counterintelligence executive with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.

Montoya oversees all the FBI’s offices and operations in Washington state.

Laura Laughlin led the Seattle office for 10 years before her abrupt retirement in February.
