MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Gov. Scott Walker is congratulating the Milwaukee area for winning a new federal designation aimed at bringing in manufacturing companies.
The Obama administration Wednesday named the Milwaukee 7 Region among 12 regions of the country that will receive special attention under the Investing in Manufacturing Communities Partnership.
The program is aimed at making those areas more attractive to manufacturing companies looking for a place to set up operations.
In a statement, Walker says the designation is a testament to the work the Milwaukee 7 is doing to develop Wisconsin’s workforce, grow the economy and create jobs. He says the designation will help boost economic development throughout southeastern Wisconsin.
More than 70 regions applied for the designation. The Milwaukee 7 is led by the Redevelopment Authority of the City of Milwaukee.
